WASHINGTON, DC

FINISHED 2009

This new house was built in 2008/9, on a steeped lot besides the Rock Creek Park, in Washington DC. The original house was a small “Normand” style house from 1931, a tear down after 10 years of abandonment. We decided to rescue/recycle the 16” solid stone exterior walls and play around them with the new house.

The original house was about 1,200 sq ft, we new house almost 4,900 sq ft. The project includes a big living room (36’x 18’x 14) open to the woods that acts as a living room/private art gallery. The top third floor is split in two, an art studio and an office space open to a green terrace facing the woods and also accessible from an independent entrance. The second floor includes all the bedrooms and the master is open to another green terrace facing the woods. The house is LEED certified candidate.
